Blank Spaces
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Use letter tiles, blanks and special spaces to build high scoring words. Increase your letter scores to beat an ever-increasing word score goal.
There are 5 words in a Set. Missing a word (not reaching the word goal) burns all blanks. But missing the 5th word in a set ends the run. If you hit on the 5th word, you proceed to the next set and your Letter Bag is reset, as well as a free blank is gifted to you.
This is a prototype for a game idea i had using the theme 'Blank Spaces'. I'm addicted to Balatro so naturally I only see game design in terms of combo-scoring mechanics.
I REALLY love the concept of Scrabble blanks that have special abilities or power ups when you enter a letter so that was the main incentive for making this. It took me about 3 weekends to finish. I spent a little too much time working on polish and should've spent more time balancing and focusing on finding a solid game loop. Still, I think this is good enough to get the general idea across. I don't know if I plan on making a full-fledged version any time soon but I have tons of ideas ready to go if I do.
The 'J' and 'I' as well as 'U' and 'V' letters are very similar looking with the font I chose. Is it annoying? Yes. Have I misspelt words many times because of this? Yes but I'm not changing it because it looks cool.
